What does this mean?

We’re reasonably sure your front or rear shocks (or struts) are worn and need to replaced. At their most basic level shocks absorb impact at each wheel, ensuring bumps and uneven pavement aren’t too harsh for the driver. However, when traveling at highway speeds, they serve a second purpose: keeping the wheels on the ground over rough payment. Each wheel generally has one corresponding shock. It’s hard to know if it’s the front or back until a mechanic inspects the car onsite. Here is what will happen once booked: 1. The mechanic will inspect the vehicle and verify the issue. If correct, the mechanic will complete the repair. 2. If incorrect, The Car Savior will review the diagnosis with the mechanic and present you with a diagnosis and cost to repair the vehicle. 3. You can decide whether or not to move forward with further repairs. If you choose not to move forward, you’ll only be charged for the diagnosis.

How urgent?

On a scale of 1 to 10, we rate this to have an urgency of 8. Some repairs have very low urgency, and we give those a 1. With these repairs, you can wait for as long as you would like, because it will not ever result in harm to you or your vehicle. These are usually cosmetic damages.

We consider a 5 to be something that will eventually need to be done, but you can likely get away with holding off for a while if other things are more pressing. However, if a repair is close to a 10 (or at a 10), this means you should NOT be driving the vehicle, and should get this repaired as soon as possible.

What happens if I wait?

If you’re a typical driver and looking to conserve cash, we’d recommend starting with the front shocks first. The rear shocks are designed to support maximum vehicle payload, which few people use. The front shocks are always supporting the engine and wear much faster. As a result, the rear shocks can last almost twice as long. Unless you’ve already replaced the front shocks, the front shocks will probably fix the problem. Further, it is more or less the same price to get the front shock done separately versus having all four done together.
